Volunteers play a critical role in helping CASS to empower men, women and children to end their homelessness. CASS offers many rewarding, creative and exciting volunteer opportunities which allow you to play a vital role in working directly and indirectly to end homelessness. CASS offers a number of off-site and on-site projects that individuals or groups can perform.

We invite you to come down to CASS for our Volunteer Orientation. You will learn more about our shelter services and about our Volunteer Program. Our Orientations are every 2nd Tuesday of the month, 5:30 pm, at the Downtown Shelter (230 S. 12th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85007). To RSVP, please click "Volunteer Orientation Sign-Up" below.

How To Become a CASS Volunteer and Individual Volunteer Requirements

For the safety and well being of the men, women and children we serve, our volunteer application and screening process is extensive. Our intent is not to overwhelm prospective volunteers, but rather to meet all licensing requirements and provide volunteers with a successful and meaningful volunteer experience.

  • Register for a Volunteer Orientation (Click here to register)
  • Interview with the Volunteer Services Manager.
  • Complete all the necessary paperwork and volunteer application.
  • Make a minimum volunteer commitment of 3 months (preferably longer).
  • Be willing to work under the supervision of CASS staff or lead volunteers.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality about the men, women and children served by CASS.
  • To volunteer at our Single Adult Shelter, you must be 18 years old. The minimum age for volunteering at Vista Colina is 16 years of age with adult supervision and requires prior approval from the Director of Family Services.
  • If you plan to volunteer at Vista Colina Emergency Family Shelter, you are required to have an Arizona state-issued Fingerprint Clearance Card. For more information, please click here.

Group Volunteer Opportunities

 

 

We encourage groups of varying size to help us in a variety of ways. The opportunities are only limited by your creativity! Some examples are: off-site donation drives, special events, deep cleaning, painting, repairing window screens, picking up trash surrounding the property, fundraising and sorting clothes.

Steps for organizing a group project:

  1. Contact the Development Team member below to discuss group's potential project
  2. Create plan and review it with your group
  3. Fill out group project form to reserve the date and clarify project goals
  4. Send form to Development team member to get final approval
  5. Meet CASS staff liaison on the day of the project and have entire group sign in before starting project
